Application
After you have reviewed the qualifications, we will ask you to fill out an application. Please be very detailed with all of your answers. The intended parents would like to connect with you as much as possible. Your application should be submitted through email to Kristin@babyboomsurrogacyusa.com. Please attach 3-4 family pictures, making sure that one is a single shot of you.
Consult/Vetting
Upon receipt of your application, we will review each detail. If your application is accepted we will contact you to make an appointment for a consultation with our staff. At the consult, we will discuss your application and go over the process in great detail including background check for you and your significant other, obtaining records, psychological evaluations for you both etc…
Matching
The matching process is very unique . We have our intended parents look at our inventory of carriers that are available. Once they pick from our online profile, we arrange for a face to face or online meeting so you can each meet, talk and ask any questions. They are as nervous as you are. After that meeting we give each party up to 48 hours to discuss with family and make their decision. If both parties want to continue the match will be finalized and we move on to medical screening.
Medical Screening
Once the match is finalized and match sheets are signed, they are sent to the fertility clinics. They will contact you to make an appointment for your medical screening. This in many cases is a one day trip and is best if your partner (if any) can attend with you. All travel is paid for including lost wages and childcare. Results from medical screening takes 1 to 3 weeks.
Legal Clearance
You have your own lawyer as well the IP’s. We work with some of the most knowledgeable attorneys in this field. If you are choosing your own, you just want to make sure that they know the surrogacy laws. Contracts can take between 2 to 4 weeks to complete. You will work one on one with your lawyer to make sure it is complete and the agreement works for you and your intended parents.
Medication Start / Transfer
After contracts are signed and legal clearance is issued, your journey begins. The fertility clinic will contact you and set a transfer date. You can expect 3 to 6 appointments before transfer and about 4 to 6 appointments after transfer before being released to your own OB. You will be on a handful of different medications and instructions will be explained to you. Every clinic uses their own medication protocol so no protocol is the same. Two of the medications are the same and those are estrogen and progesterone. The amounts will be different per carrier as directed by the doctors. You can expect to continue on medication until 10-12 weeks pregnant.
Beta/Heartbeat/ Pregnancy
About 10 days after transfer, sometimes sooner, you will have your first pregnancy blood test (aka beta). If your numbers are high enough you will repeat this test 48 hours later. Your doctor will be looking for at least 66% increase in numbers before officially declaring you pregnant. When the HCG levels reach a certain point, you will go in for an ultrasound to confirm heartbeat. This is usually 5-7 weeks gestation. You will have a repeated ultrasound for the first 8-10 weeks (about every 10-14 days) with the clinic. At that point you will be released to see your own OB for the duration of your pregnancy.
Pre / Post Birth Order
At about 20 weeks we start what is called the prebirth order paperwork. Each attorney has their own way of preparing that. The attorney will have a worksheet that both the surrogate/partner and IP have to fill out. Once those are turned in to the lawyer, they can then file for the order. In most cases a pre-birth order is signed and the surrogate will take this with her to the hospital when the baby is delivered. In some cases the judge does not get it signed in time and then a post birth order is needed. Either way the hospital will know who the parents are and will help take care of everything. Including the correct parental names on the birth certificates.
Delivery
“D” day!!!! A day the carrier and parents have waited for, dreamed about, and planned for. The day the carrier gets to place that baby in their parent’s arms. The feelings you all will share and the memories that will forever stay with you. As with all pregnancies, you will follow up with you OB 6-8 weeks post delivery.
